Byebye 2012

30 Dec

Cannot believe 2012 is almost over! So many amazing things happened this year:

I know I left out lots of other experiences, but those are the ones that stand out the most. I’m so blessed to be where I am in my life right now! My family is the SO supportive of my decisions, my friends are always there to listen and talk to, my boyfriend is my rock, and I’m involving myself in so many different things-kind of crazy! I’m unsure of where I’m going, but I know that I’ll enjoy every.single.minute.of the journey to get to my happy place.

This next year has ample amounts of opportunity:

  • excelling in my GA position and incorporating programs into group fitness
  • building my blog with Oakland University
  • hosting an IFTA event
  • presenting at Student Lead-on in Chicago and TBHII2 in Las Vegas!
  • growing with lululemon into a social media/people potential/community/digital guru position
  • creating a blog for the Somerset store
  • sweating in the community and building relationships
  • traveling Michigan
  • spending time with family, friends, and owning MY life.

I cannot wait for 2013!

What are your goals for the New Year?

(Finally) Day 44!

20 Jul

9 hour days, 5 days a week, 40 hour weeks,  10 weeks, totaling 400 hours worth of corporate fitness is complete! I finished up all my hours yesterday afternoon but had to come in today to organize some things for when I turn in my internship portfolio later this morning.

It’s bitter-sweet; no more 40 traffic when the threat of a mistingrain arises (sweet), staff and training meetings are a thing of the past (bitter), seeing the people I formed relationships with (very bitter), long days of shadowing office hours and fitness classes (sweet),  being on a schedule (bitter), impacting participants lives in a positive way through instructing and training (extremely bitter), and most importantly, leaving Raleigh (need I say how bitter?).

I’ve called Raleigh my second home for the last 4 years and it’s hard to grasp leaving and not returning in a couple of days or weeks. BUT. When one door closes, another one will open and I’m ecstatic to go home and be able to relax with my family for a little before I head up to Oakland Michigan to start another chapter in my life book!

I met some lovely ladies for sushi last night  and to say good-byesee you later. (It was BOGO so when in Rome right?) We went to town and were shocked when the waitress brought a sushi boat to our table for 3 women (4 when our 4th showed up). A SUSHI BOAT. Granted, it was the size of a pontoon boat and not the Titanic, but still.. *A side note-we ate ALL of the above, and more..4 more rolls. 😉

My parents left Pittsburgh at 4am this morning so their ETA is ~11:30am and they brought a guest with them. This little guy is making his first appearance in Raleigh! The plan is to pack up all my junk, head to Jasmin’s for lunch, then make the 1-way trip back to Pittsburgh.

Your New IFTA Blogger!

9 Jan

Remember Raleigh Fitness Weekend? I’ve been in contact and asked if I could blog about upcoming events, certifications, presenters and more….they agreed! THIS IS SO EXCITING!

As I get the information, I’ll blog about where the event(s) will take place, what certifications are available and the cost, which presenters will be there and anything else I can get my hands on! Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to attend local events and take pictures, write reviews of the classes and interact with the participants to better serve them. Fingers crossed!

IFTA Raleigh Fitness Weekend HITBI

19 Sep

I’m so blessed :). This past weeekend, NCSU hosted the Interactive Fitness Trainers of America Raleigh Fitness Weekend event! Such a great opportunity to network with professionals, meet new instructors from all over, and take tons of different classes that you might not be able to take anywhere else.  I, along with my boss and another instructor at U.Rec., was asked to be a presenter and teach a class-how cool AND honored??! For me, this was a dream come true; to not only be in the presence of my idols like Gay Gasper, Petra Kolber, and Greg Sims but also to be able to network and talk about how they got started in the fitness business was surreal. I can only keep practicing and being persistent to be on their level one day..

The class I taught was High Intensity Total Body Intervals; a weightless workout that interspersed short, intense intervals with toning exercises using the best tool God gave us-our body! Here’s the deets:

Lower body:

  • single-leg squats (pulses, tap forward-side-back)
  • single-leg power jumps
  • squats (pulses, jumps)

Upper body:

  • push-ups
  • staggered push-ups
  • triceps push-ups
  • triceps dips

Lower body:

  • forward/reverse lunges (pulses, knee lifts)
  • clock lunges (forward-side-reverse, pulses, knee lifts)
  • plie squats w/ calf raise (pulses, jumps)
  • bent-over, single-leg hamstring curls

Upper body:

  • diamond push-ups (they LOVED these!)
  • lateral “walking” push-ups
  • can-can triceps dips
  • side-lying triceps push-ups

Core:

  • dead bug

The class flew by and I had a blast teaching it! The participants had high energy (for it being Sunday at 11am), they were interactive and personable with me, and they even asked for a copy of my workout! MY PERSONAL WORKOUT! How honored I felt to almost be “a master trainer”; it’s a feeling that I have and will yearn for and I’m determined to achieve it again and again..
