Shaping Up after Chowing Down

Everyone’s done it; eating way too much and feeling awful that all of your hard work  is ruined. STOP! Overindulging is completely normal (you are HUMAN!), as long as it’s a once-in-a-while thing. Instead of feeling frazzled and defeated, think of this as a new opportunity to dust-off the knowledge that helped you lose the weight in the first place, and regain a healthy balanced diet*.

  1. relax-avoid the scale. weighing yourself after-the-fact is setting you up for failure, since your weight has most likely gone up. keep in mind it take 3,500 calories to gain a pound.
  2. drink water-H2O flushes out excess sodium, keeps you feeling full (in case that last piece of cake is screaming your name) and hydrated.
  3. eat breakfast! do not skip the most important meal in fear of gaining more weight. think high fiber (aids in digestion) and eat balanced meals (whole grains, lean protein, healthy fats) throughout the day to keep your metabolism up.
  4. exercise! pick your favorite type and do 15 minutes extra. endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine are all released during physical activity, making your post-binge sweat sesh feel accomplishing and put you in a better state of mind.
Life is full of temptations and opportunities to overindulge and sometimes that extra slice of pie (or 2, 3, 4) is needed. The real challenge is how you deal and bounce back from it. Remember: Everything in moderation 🙂

*Diet meaning your preferred eating plan-NOT restricting calories!
